Rituals of Renewal

30” x 30” Acrylic on canvas. 2025.

Coiled around a weathered branch, the snake exists between worlds. It is neither arriving nor departing, but inhabiting the sacred threshold where transformation takes place. With each shedding of its skin, it leaves behind what can no longer contain its growth, reminding us that renewal is not an isolated event but a lifelong practice.

The branch, covered in vibrant moss, represents life emerging from what once appeared dormant. Though aged and worn, it continues to nourish new growth, suggesting that our greatest wisdom often arises from the experiences that have shaped us rather than those we have avoided.

Beneath the snake lies its discarded skin—a quiet testament to the identities, beliefs, and stories we inevitably outgrow. Shedding is neither loss nor failure; it is an act of trust. To become who we are meant to be, we must repeatedly release who we have been.

Behind the serpent, shifting skies move from daylight to stars, from storm to moonlight, revealing the cyclical nature of existence. Every season contains its opposite. Every ending carries the seed of a beginning. Like the phases of the moon and the turning of the Earth, transformation unfolds in rhythms beyond our control.

A butterfly hovers nearby, offering another expression of metamorphosis. While the snake transforms by releasing, the butterfly transforms by dissolving and rebuilding itself from within. Together they reveal that there is no single path to change. Each life follows its own unfolding.

Subtle sacred geometry woven throughout the composition suggests an invisible intelligence connecting all living things. The repeating patterns found in galaxies, flowers, rivers, and cells remind us that transformation is not random, but woven into the fabric of the universe itself.

Rituals of Renewal invites us to embrace change not as something to fear, but as something sacred. It reminds us that growth asks for participation. It is found in the small, intentional rituals through which we continually let go, begin again, and return more fully to ourselves.
